Early December, Xa’xtsa together with Mandi Sellers of Indigenous Community for Leadership and Development met with the Associate Minister for Jobs Tourism and Skills Training to put a case forward for receiving much needed funds to help provide training to community members.
The training will be based around providing skills and qualifications for people who might be interested in working on some of the exciting business projects which are currently being planned by Xa’xtsa.
Planning for the type and delivery of the training is underway, with Loretta, Darryl, Becky and myself all having roles to play in helping set the stage for a start of the program on 6th March and a completion in late June.
We are actively working to try to remove any barriers which my prevent people wanting to participate including; child care, transport, learning abilities and costs. All participants will receive a laptop computer, necessary software and text books when they sign up.
A press release will be sent to the local newspapers to let the wider community know of this great program. A community information session is being pencilled into the March General Meeting as a way to keep the entire membership abreast of the program.
